Apple today shared a new iPhone 14 ad promoting Action Mode, a camera feature that was added to the latest devices. Action Mode provides additional stabilization when capturing video while moving, making it ideal for shots that would otherwise not be possible on a smartphone without specialized equipment.

In the ad spot, a mother uses Action Mode to film her son in a race, running alongside him to capture the action. Apple has said that Action Mode is meant to replicate the stable video that you can typically only get when using a gimbal. This is the second Action Mode-specific ad that Apple has shared, first introducing a two minute Action Mode spot back in November. Action Mode is not enabled by default, but can be activated through the Action Mode icon when in video mode.

Apple has also uploaded an ad featuring the iOS 16 message undo send feature, which allow an iMessage to be unsent for a short period of time after it goes out. In the ad, a man pet sitting a lizard appears to have killed the lizard as it looks dead. He sends a text message letting his friend know that the lizard dies, when suddenly it moves. He's able to unsend the message before his friend sees it.

While Action Mode is limited to the new models, the undo send feature for the Messages app is available on all devices that are able to run iOS 16.

Apple wants to start replacing the Qualcomm modem chips that it uses in iPhones as soon as 2024, according to a new report from Bloomberg. Apple has been working on in-house modem chip technology for several years now, with the aim of reducing its reliance on Qualcomm.

Apple 5G Modem Feature Triad
Apple initially wanted to introduce its own modem chips as early as 2023, but Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said in late 2022 that Apple would need to continue to rely on Qualcomm in the near future as Apple's development efforts "failed." At the time, Kuo said that Apple would continue working on its 5G chips, but that development would not be done in time for the launch of the 2023 iPhones, which Bloomberg's report agrees with. Modem chip development has seen delays, and Apple will use a slow rollout to end its reliance on Qualcomm. Apple will start with using its own modem chip in a single device before expanding the rollout to other devices. The transition away from Qualcomm could take up to three years.

In addition to transitioning to its own in-house chips starting in 2024, Apple wants to stop using wireless components from Broadcom in 2025. Apple is working on a WiFi and Bluetooth chip that would replace the components that it is currently sourcing from Broadcom. Apple in 2020 signed a three and a half-year deal with Broadcom for wireless components and modules, with that deal set to expire midway through 2023.

While separate components to replace hardware sourced from Qualcomm and Broadcom are in development right now, Bloomberg says Apple is also working on a chip that will combine the cellular modem, WiFi, and Bluetooth functions into a single component. Broadcom also supplies Apple with radio-frequency chips and chips for wireless charging, both of which Apple is working on replacing.

Apple designs its own A-series chips for the iPhone and M-series chips for the Mac, and replacing modem chips and wireless components has been a priority ever since its Qualcomm dispute. Apple launched a legal battle against Qualcomm in 2017, accusing Qualcomm of unfairly collecting royalties for technologies it had nothing to do with. Apple wanted to transition away from Qualcomm with the shift to 5G to stop paying Qualcomm's fees and instead use Intel technology, but Intel was not able to manufacture 5G chips that met Apple's standards.

Apple was forced to settle its lawsuit with Qualcomm and has since used Qualcomm 5G modem chips for the ‌iPhone‌ and iPad lineups. Apple in 2019 purchased Intel's modem chip business to get a head start on chip development, and 2024 may be the soonest that the technology is finally advanced enough for Apple to phase out Qualcomm.

Apple is working on a restructuring of its services division to account for the departure of services executive Peter Stern, reports Business Insider. Stern, who serves as Apple's vice president of services overseeing Apple TV+, Sports, Apple News+, iCloud, Apple Fitness+, Books, Apple Arcade, and Apple One, is reportedly leaving the company.

apple services newsroom
Stern has worked for Apple for over six years, reporting to services chief Eddy Cue, and prior to that, he was the executive vice president and chief strategy officer for Time Warner Cable.

Alongside Cue, Stern has recently been involved in pursuing sports content for ‌Apple TV‌+ as well handling Apple's other key services. With Stern's departure, Apple will be restructuring its services business, splitting the services unit and Stern's responsibilities into three divisions.

Stern told colleagues that he is leaving in order to spend more time on the East Coast, and he is set to depart at the end of the month. According to Business Insider, he was seen as someone who could be a possible successor to ‌Eddy Cue‌ in the future, taking over Apple's services division.

Apple's services category is of increasing importance to the company as it supplements device sales. In fiscal 2022, Apple's services division earned $78 billion, up $10 billion from 2021. Apple recently increased the price of both ‌Apple TV‌+ and Apple Music, the former because of a growing content catalog and the latter because of increased licensing costs.

Apple today released a second Rapid Security Response (RSR) update for the macOS Ventura 13.2 beta, with the update coming almost a month after Apple provided the first Rapid Security Response test on the Mac.

rapid security response ventura b
macOS Rapid Security Response 13.2 (b) is applied to the Mac automatically upon restart, and it is also added to Safari when the Safari app is exited and then reopened.

The first RSR release for the Mac appeared to be a test that did not add new features, with Apple instead making sure the feature works before it is deployed for an actual security update. Today's update is just 13.4MB in size, suggesting it is once again a test. Rapid Security Response is an iOS 16 and macOS Ventura feature released as part of those updates.

Apple has also previously released ‌several iOS 16‌ Rapid Security Responses in a test capacity.

A sketchy app claiming to be the bot ChatGPT has soared up App Store charts, charging users a $7.99 weekly subscription to use a service that is entirely free to use on the web and seemingly has no affiliation to the actual bot.

ChatGPT on App Store Feature
ChatGPT has soared in popularity recently, with some calling it the "iPhone moment" for AI, given its mainstream appeal. ChatGPT can articulate short and long-form responses when given a simple prompt, such as to write an email, essay, message, and more. The bot has seen its popularity grow with students and those in academia who have used it for research and assignments.

ChatGPT is free to use on the web for anyone with an OpenAI account, but it has inspired scammers and sketchy developers to take advantage of its popularity for ill-gained profit. One app in particular, named "ChatGPT Chat GPT AI With GPT-3," gives the impression it is the official app for the ChatGPT bot, but appears to have no affiliation to Open AI, the creators of ChatGPT, or the bot itself.

The app charges users a $7.99 weekly or $49.99 annual subscription to use the bot unlimited times and eliminate intrusive in-app ads. The app and its bot are inconsistent, sometimes providing generic or entirely irrelevant responses to a prompt offered by the user.

The app is currently the second most popular productivity app on the App Store in the United States, indicating it is rather popular. The app has nearly 12,000 ratings, with a number of positive and negative reviews. "This is a fake app," one review said. "This is just faking openai endorsement and more bad stuff," another user said. Despite its suspicious activity, presence, and soaring popularity, the app has passed Apple's ‌App Store‌ review process multiple times since its initial launch three weeks ago.

The developers behind the app, named "Social Media Apps & Game Sports health Run Hiking Runing fitness tracking," have other sketchy apps on the platform, including an "Activity Lock Screen Widget 16" app and "BetterTrack Ride Hike Run Swim" app.

Apple is known to be facing a tough battle against scams and sketchy apps on the ‌App Store‌, with some raking in millions of dollars in revuene. Apple, however, calls the ‌App Store‌ a "trusted platform" where apps are "held to the highest standards for privacy, security, and content."

Update January 10, 11:45 am: The app has been removed from the ‌App Store‌.

In partnership with parking platform SpotHero, Apple Maps now provides parking information for more than 8,000 locations across the U.S. and Canada. Parking availability can be filtered based on EV charging, wheelchair accessibility, and more.

Apple Maps New Parking Feature US and Canada Feature 1
On the iPhone, users can open the Apple Maps app and search for a popular destination such as Madison Square Garden in New York or Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, tap on the "More" button in the place card, tap on the "Parking" option in the menu, and proceed to search for and reserve nearby parking on the SpotHero website without leaving Apple Maps. SpotHero says the feature will also be available on the Mac.

In 2019, Apple started rolling out a revamped Maps app with more detail, improved navigation, custom-designed 3D models of popular landmarks, immersive turn-by-turn walking directions powered by augmented reality, and more. The new parking feature is another step towards Apple's goal of making the app an all-in-one resource for navigation.

The iPhone 15 has entered early "machine trial production" with main iPhone assembler Foxconn ahead of launch later this year, according to a report today by Economic Daily News.

iPhone 15 General Mock Feature
According to the report, Foxconn has received instructions to begin "new machine trial production" for the ‌iPhone 15‌ and begin new product introduction (NPI) for the device. This process is taking place before the ‌iPhone 15‌ is expected to enter mass production later this year and is meant to introduce the device's specific design and production needs to Foxconn.

The report notes that this year's process for mass production of the upcoming ‌iPhone 15‌ will differ from previous years due to production taking place in both China and India. A machine-translated copy of the report reads:

It is worth noting that the NPI of the new iPhone this year is a little different from previous years, mainly because the gap between the mass production time of iPhones in mainland China and India will narrow. In previous years, the mass production time of the two places was about six to nine months apart. Last year, it was shortened to two months, and this year it will be shortened to a few weeks.

The ‌iPhone 15‌ lineup is expected to feature four models matching the sizes of this year's iPhone 14 series, including the ‌iPhone 15‌, ‌iPhone 15‌ Plus, ‌iPhone 15‌ Pro, and ‌iPhone 15‌ Ultra.

Rumors suggest that the higher-end ‌iPhone 15‌ Pro and ‌iPhone 15‌ Ultra will feature a titanium frame, solid-state haptic volume buttons, and USB-C with faster transfer speeds. The standard models are expected to gain Dynamic Island, a USB-C port with Lightning transfer speeds, and possibly a 48MP camera.

Supply of the iPhone 14 Pro and ‌iPhone 14‌ Pro Max has been restored to normal levels following months of production disruptions that severely impacted the availability of Apple's highest-end iPhones.

iphone 14 cyber
In November, in a rare press release on its website, Apple warned that supply of the ‌iPhone 14‌ Pro and ‌iPhone 14‌ Pro Max would be heavily constrained due to lockdown restrictions impacting its main iPhone assembly plant in China.

"We continue to see strong demand for ‌iPhone 14‌ Pro and ‌iPhone 14‌ Pro Max models. However, we now expect lower ‌iPhone 14‌ Pro and ‌iPhone 14‌ Pro Max shipments than we previously anticipated, and customers will experience longer wait times to receive their new products," the company said. "We are working closely with our supplier to return to normal production levels."

The disruptions resulted in customers being forced to wait several weeks to receive their new iPhone 14 Pro models in the United States and other markets. Availability of the models started to improve around late December, but now appear to have been fully restored.

Apple's online store in the United States shows all configurations of the ‌iPhone 14‌ Pro and ‌iPhone 14‌ Pro Max as in stock and ready to be shipped to customers within 24 hours, a stark difference from the three to four-week wait time from several weeks ago.

Today marks 16 years since Apple CEO Steve Jobs stood on stage at Macworld Expo in San Francisco, California, on January 9 and introduced the iPhone to the world for the first time.

original iphone 2007
Standing on stage at Macworld Expo, Jobs uttered words that would go down in history as introducing a device that would change everything. "Today, Apple is going to reinvent the phone," Jobs said, unveiling the ‌iPhone‌ that stood apart given, at the time, its futuristic design, a multi-touch display with no physical keyboard, and iPhoneOS, a proper mobile operating system.

Jobs famously described the ‌iPhone‌ as an iPod with touch controls, a phone, and a breakthrough internet communications device, three distinct areas that no device at the time managed to tackle all at once. The original ‌iPhone‌ had a 3.5-inch LCD display, a 2-megapixel camera, and an aluminum and plastic body.

original iphone
Every year since the original ‌iPhone‌, Apple has continued to update it with new features and capabilities. The first significant redesign of the ‌iPhone‌ came with the iPhone 4 in 2010, three years after the introduction of the original ‌iPhone‌. The ‌iPhone‌ 4 marked a turning point in the history of the ‌iPhone‌, offering an entirely new design with flat edges, a brand new Retina display, the A4 processor, a 5-megapixel camera, LED flash, and more.

iphone 5 apple store
Two years later, the iPhone 5 marked another redesign for the ‌iPhone‌, making it taller with a larger Retina display, the A6 chip, a thin design making it the "thinnest smartphone in the world" at the time, a new 8-megapixel iSight camera, and more.

In the years that followed, Apple would introduce several innovations that continue to live on to this day, such as Touch ID and Face ID, advanced cameras, industry-leading smartphone performance and battery life, sleek designs, and a tightly integrated ecosystem of devices.

iPhone 14 Pro Display and Camera
Fast forward to today, the ‌iPhone‌ lineup has five different models: the iPhone SE, iPhone 14, ‌iPhone 14‌ Plus, ‌iPhone 14‌ Pro, and ‌iPhone 14‌ Pro Max. Current-day iPhones include features unthinkable at the time of the original ‌iPhone‌, including an all-screen display with no Home Button and thin bezels, facial recognition, 4K video recording, a 48MP camera, Dynamic Island, a higher-refresh rate display, and all the features and capabilities of iOS 16.

Apple has begun hiring staff for its first flagship stores in India, reports The Financial Times. Job listings for 12 store worker roles have been found in "various locations" throughout the country, indicating that Apple is almost ready to establish a retail presence in the Indian market.

apple india
The job listings directly refer to the Apple Store, with roles including store leaders, store managers, technical specialists, and Genius Bar staff. Separately, at least five employees based in Mumbai and New Delhi have announced on LinkedIn that they have been hired for the yet-to-be-announced stores, according to the report.

Apple has not confirmed its plans to open stores in India, but a report last year by The Economic Times claimed that Apple planned to launch its first store between January and March 2023, with a flagship 22,000-square-foot Mumbai store scheduled to open first. The store was originally planned to open in 2021, but the global health crisis and economic uncertainty reportedly forced Apple to delay the opening.

Apple is also said to be planning a second, smaller 10,000 to 12,000-square-foot store in New Delhi, and possibly other stores in locations such as malls and high-end shopping districts across India, with the intent of making retail a large part of its presence in the country.

In 2020 Apple opened its online store in India, offering Indian customers a direct way to purchase products directly from Apple without having to go through an authorized premium reseller. Apple's online store offers a full range of Apple products and accessories with shopping assistance from Apple Specialists, EDU pricing for students, free no-contact delivery, financing options, a trade-in program for iPhone sales, and more.

In the past, Cook and other Apple executives have remarked on the importance of India, which is home to the world's second biggest smartphone market. Apple has also been working to build out a manufacturing supply chain in the country, and in an indication of the country's perceived importance as a production hub, Apple shifted iPhone 14 assembly from China to India in the weeks following its release.

Apple is reportedly planning to launch at least 10 Apple devices this year, with new product releases seemingly planned for each quarter of the year.

imac 2021 box feature
After months of rumors about many of Apple's upcoming devices, we have gathered information from a range of sources to provide a tentative roadmap for the company's launch plans this year. The below time frames are based on information from reliable sources like Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, and display analyst Ross Young – all of whom have very good track records in providing accurate insights into Apple's plans.

First Half of 2023

Naturally, there is more specific information about Apple's plans for the first half of 2023 since these devices are much further along in their development cycle. The fourth quarter of 2022 was the first time in 22 years that Apple did not release new Macs, and with many of the Macs in Apple's lineup now in desperate need of an update, the first half of 2023 looks to be a Mac-heavy period for new products.

First Quarter

According to one report coming out of Asia, Apple is planning to release updated 14- and 16-inch ‌MacBook Pro‌ models specifically around March, but other sources have been reluctant to narrow down a more specific time frame for the new machines. Since these devices have been expected to launch since the fourth quarter of 2022, the new MacBook Pros seem like the devices most likely timetabled for early this year. That being said, a recent report from DigiTimes cautioned that there could be a further delay.

It is worth noting that upon the launch of the ‌M2‌ Max ‌MacBook Pro‌ and the ‌M2‌ Ultra ‌Mac Pro‌ later this year, the current Mac Studio will contain outdated chip hardware and, logically, should also see a refresh – though we haven't heard concrete rumors about such an update to date.

There is also a chance that a new HomePod mini could accompany the revival of the full-size HomePod, likely with a newer chip.

Second Quarter

Entering mass production in the first quarter of 2023, an all-new 15.5-inch MacBook Air model is the only device that we are aware of on the cards for the second quarter, falling between May and August. This timing could suggest a launch that falls around WWDC, which Apple usually holds in early June.

Second Half of 2023

Less is known about the exact timing of Apple's releases for the second half of 2023, but it could shape up to be a crucial period for the company with the launch of an entirely new device category. The two devices placed indeterminately in the second half of the year are as follows:

It is vital to note that Apple's headset is still expected to enter mass production in the first half of 2023, so only the actual launch of the device is rumored for the second half of the year. This means that Apple's headset could still be announced sooner rather than later in the first half of the year, but more specific timing is still difficult to pin down.

Bloomberg's ‌Mark Gurman‌ says that Apple's current plan is to announce the headset during an event in the spring, before the WWDC in June. Developers will then be introduced to its operating system, xrOS, at WWDC, before shipping the product sometime in the fall.

Likewise, little is known about the next-generation AirPods Max, but they are expected to launch by 2024 with USB-C, and could launch sometime in the second half of 2023 if trends established by the launch other AirPods launches continue to be followed. Kuo recently claimed that the new ‌AirPods Max‌ may not emerge until the second half of 2024, so a launch this year may now be unlikely.

Third Quarter

  • iPhone 15, ‌iPhone 15‌ Plus, ‌iPhone 15‌ Pro, and ‌iPhone 15‌ Ultra
  • Apple Watch Series 9

Apple's third-quarter releases are almost always the most predicable launches of the company's calendar, and 2023 is highly likely to mirror previous years with the launch of new iPhone and Apple Watch models in September.

With the Apple Watch Series 9 being likely to get the first Apple Watch chip upgrade since the Series 5, the Apple Watch Ultra could also get a 2023 refresh with a new chip.

Fourth Quarter

Other than 2022, Apple released new Macs in the fourth quarter of the year every year since 2001 – so Mac releases around this time of year are generally to be expected. While it is among the less firm rumors for this year, the fourth quarter of 2023 could be dominated by the ‌iMac‌, with two new models – one succeeding the 24-inch ‌iMac‌ with the M1 chip from 2021 and one reviving the position of high-end all-in-one held by the ‌iMac‌ Pro between 2017 and 2021.

It is also worth mentioning that there are concrete rumors about any iPad refreshes for 2023 other than the iPad mini – so it could be quite some time before there multiple new tablets from Apple. Even the ‌iPad mini‌ could be pushed to early 2024, according to ‌Ming-Chi Kuo‌. Nevertheless, Gurman says that minor spec bumps for the iPad Air and entry-level ‌iPad‌ are possible for 2023.

At this early stage, the launch timing of Apple's new products for the year is still subject to change. Time frames will solidify throughout the year as announcement dates get locked in and we're likely to have a good idea of when to expect new devices as even more rumors emerge.

Apple plans to release a larger 15-inch MacBook Air in 2023, but a previously rumored 12-inch MacBook with Apple silicon is no longer expected to launch this year, according to the latest information shared by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

MacBook Air M2 Chip Purple Feature
Gurman did not share any additional details about the 15-inch MacBook Air, but display analyst Ross Young previously claimed that Apple's suppliers would begin production of 15.5-inch display panels for the new MacBook Air in the first quarter of 2023, leading him to assume that the notebook would be released as early as this spring.

Given that the MacBook Air was just redesigned in 2022, it's likely that the 15-inch model would have a very similar or identical design as the latest 13-inch model, and it will likely be available with M2 and M2 Pro chip options.

As for the 12-inch MacBook, Gurman previously claimed that Apple was considering launching it at the end of 2023 or in early 2024, but today he said that the smaller notebook is no longer on the company's near-term roadmap.

Apple has released both lower-end and higher-end 12-inch notebooks in the past. At the low end, Apple introduced an ultra-thin 12-inch MacBook that weighed just two pounds in 2015, but the notebook was discontinued in 2019. And at the higher end, Apple offered a 12-inch PowerBook G4 in the mid-2000s, prior to the original MacBook Pro.

The previous 12-inch MacBook was thermally constrained as a result of using Intel processors, but Apple silicon has superior performance per watt, allowing for Apple to reintroduce an ultra-thin, fanless MacBook if it ever decides to.

Apple plans to expand the Dynamic Island to all four iPhone 15 models launching later this year, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. The hardware-dependant feature is currently limited to the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

iPhone 14 Pro Purple Side Perspective Feature Purple
In his Power On newsletter today, Gurman said the iPhone 15 series will offer the same four screen sizes as the iPhone 14 series, meaning that customers can expect a 6.1-inch iPhone 15, 6.7-inch iPhone 15 Plus, 6.1-inch iPhone 15 Pro, and 6.7-inch iPhone 15 Pro Max. Following in the footsteps of the Apple Watch Ultra, Gurman previously suggested that the iPhone 15 Pro Max might be named the iPhone 15 Ultra.

The Dynamic Island is a pill-shaped area at the top of the iPhone's display that replaces the notch found on previous models. Aided by software, the Dynamic Island morphs into different shapes and sizes for Live Activities, system alerts, and other information. Display analyst Ross Young previously claimed that the Dynamic Island would be available on all four iPhone 15 models, and this rumor is now backed by Gurman.

As widely expected, all four iPhone 15 models will be equipped with a USB-C port instead of Lightning, according to Gurman. USB-C is a more universally adopted charging standard and offers faster data transfer speeds than Lightning.

Gurman also corroborated rumors claiming that iPhone 15 Pro models will feature a titanium frame with haptic volume buttons. Instead of physically moving, two new Taptic Engines inside the device would simulate the feeling of the buttons being pressed, similar to how the iPhone SE's Home button and newer MacBook trackpads work.

Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 15 series in September as usual.

Apple is planning no major updates for its iPad, AirPods, Apple TV, or Apple Watch product lines for 2023, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said today in his latest Power On newsletter.

apple beta lineup 2022
Apple is expected to announce its AR/VR headset this spring, and the imminent launch of the headset has seemingly taken the focus away from other products in Apple's portfolio. According to Gurman, no significant updates for the ‌iPad‌ are expected this year, with the closest major update taking place in the first half of 2024 with OLED 11-inch and 13-inch ‌iPad‌ Pros. Gurman says Apple may introduce minor spec bumps for the entry-level ‌iPad‌, iPad mini, and iPad Air.

For the AirPods lineup, Gurman says not to expect any updates "of note" this year, which could rule out the possibility of an updated version of the AirPods Max making a debut. Previous reports indicated Apple is not working on a second-generation version of the headphones, but has considered releasing new colors.

For the Apple Watch, Gurman says he does not expect major hardware changes this year, only some minor performance improvements to Apple Watch models. In September, Apple announced the all-new Apple Watch Ultra, so minor updates to that, as well as other models of the lineup, are to be expected. Gurman says Apple has no plans for a new ‌Apple TV‌ in 2023.

iOS 17, the next major update for the iPhone, could be a less significant update than Apple was originally hoping as the company, and its engineers, focus more heavily on the upcoming AR/VR headset.

iOS 16 Preview
Apple has been working on its AR/VR headset and its accompanying operating system, xrOS, for several years. With the launch of the headset now expected in 2023, Apple's engineers have been focusing less on other operating systems, including the upcoming iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 updates, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

In his latest Power On newsletter, Gurman says iOS 17, which is internally codenamed Dawn, could end up having "fewer major changes than originally planned" due to Apple focusing more on ‌xrOS‌ for the upcoming headset. Gurman says a similar approach is taking place with macOS 14, codenamed Sunburst.

iOS 14, announced in 2020, and iOS 16, announced last June, were two significant updates, bringing redesigned widgets to the ‌iPhone‌ Home Screen, App Library, new features in stock apps like Maps and Safari, a redesigned lock screen, and more. iOS 17, alongside iPadOS 17, macOS 14, and watchOS 10, will be announced during WWDC in June.

Apple's AR/VR headset, likely to be named "Reality Pro," will be announced during an event this spring before WWDC, which is typically held in June, before the product begins shipping this fall.

apple ar headset concept 2Concept render by Ian Zelbo based on purported leaked information

In his latest Power On newsletter, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman says that Apple's current plan is to announce the headset during an event in the spring, before the company's Worldwide Developers Conference in June. According to Gurman, Apple plans to announce the product, then have developers introduced to its operating system, xrOS, at WWDC, before shipping it in the fall.

The final postponement, at least for the moment, happened last year. Up until fairly recently, Apple had aimed to introduce the headset in January 2023 and ship it later this year. Now the company is aiming to unveil it this spring ahead of the annual Worldwide Developers Conference in June, I'm told.

With the current plan, Apple could introduce the device to consumers — likely under the name Reality Pro — and then get developers up to speed on its software features in June. On this timeline, the company would then ship the product later in the fall of 2023.

Apple has been rumored to announce its AR/VR headset for the last several years, with 2023 seeming to be the year it finally happens. According to Gurman, Apple is already working with several "high-profile developers" on experiences and apps for the new headset and the ‌xrOS‌ operating system. Apple's first headset is expected to be a high-end and niche product, tailored towards professionals and developers before a more consumer-friendly headset launches in the next several years.

In his latest Power On newsletter, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has revealed that Apple's upcoming ‌Mac Pro‌, which is the final product to make the transition to Apple silicon, will feature the same design as the current ‌Mac Pro‌ from 2019. Unlike the current Intel-based ‌Mac Pro‌, the upcoming model will also not feature user-upgradeable RAM.

In another disappointment, the new Mac Pro will look identical to the 2019 model. It will also lack one key feature from the Intel version: user-upgradeable RAM. That's because the memory is tied directly to the M2 Ultra's motherboard. Still, there are two SSD storage slots and [spaces] for graphics, media, and networking cards.

Gurman has reported that Apple has canceled plans to release a higher-end model of the upcoming ‌Mac Pro‌ with 48 CPU cores and 152 GPU cores given its high cost and likely niche market.
