Apple Potentially Behind 'HomeView' Trademark Filed Alongside 'homeOS' Last Year

Apple potentially used a shell company named Home Services LLC to secretly file for a "HomeView" trademark in the U.S. and various other countries last year, around the same time that another shell company named Home Operations Suite LLC that also might be linked to Apple filed for a "homeOS" trademark.

Apple reportedly plans to unveil an all-new smart home hub during its "Welcome home" launch on Tuesday, October 13. Will the device be named HomeView, and will its all-new operating system be named homeOS? We shall soon find out.

Apple has a history of using shell companies to secretly file trademarks related to unannounced hardware and software. For example, prior to the Apple Vision Pro launching in 2023, a shell company that was ultimately connected to Apple filed a trademark for "visionOS," which ended up being the name of the Vision Pro's operating system. However, Apple was also behind a trademark for an "xrOS" name that it ultimately abandoned in favor of visionOS, so trademark filings do not always correspond with Apple's final branding decisions.

"HomePad" is another speculative name for Apple's home hub, given that the device is expected to be somewhat of a HomePod-iPad hybrid.

Perhaps the device will have a straightforward "Apple Home" name? That name could be confusing given there is also an Apple Home app, but this is a company that has an Apple TV 4K device, an Apple TV app, and an Apple TV streaming service, so it is certainly possible. Or maybe "HomePod Pro" instead? Share your guesses in the comments section.

RIP, homeOS

Tuesday October 13, 2026 9:39 am PDT by
MacRumors was first to reveal the name "HomeView" last week, after discovering a trademark filing from a secretive shell company that we correctly suspected was linked to Apple. Apple was likely behind a "homeOS" trademark filing as well, but the company ultimately decided to stick with generic "HomeView software" naming, just like it refers to the HomePod's operating system as "HomePod...

I use my Watch. Not perfect, but it of s a solution.

It’s always annoyed me that the Apple won’t let the ATV remote be used with other Apple devices. If they rebranded it as the Apple Remote , sold it as an individual item and let it be paired with any Apple device, then I’d buy one in an instant.
They had one years ago. Came out in 2005. Controlled iMac, Apple TV, and iPods in docks. Macs had front row and infrared. I had a few remotes since I owned an iMac G5 and the original Apple TV.

Do you watch Apple TV on Apple TV on Apple TV?

Hard to believe, but that sentence is actually correct. You watch Apple TV (the streaming service) on Apple TV (the app) on Apple TV (the box).

When Apple dropped the plus from tv+ they were either complicating things further or marking the beginning of a branding correction. With the impending update of Apple TV (the box!), HomePod mini and the release of an iPad-like home hub, there may be an opportunity to fix this mess.

Given this was Apple's latest decision on branding, they have decided: Apple TV is the streaming service.

Where does that leave the box? We should look at where Apple TV (the box) fits in the Apple ecosystem. It's a home device first and foremost. It currently lives alongside HomePods and even has a special relationship with them as they're often bound to one another as a single system.

So if "Home" is the primary denominator of Home devices, and the hub would make sense to be called HomePad does the tv box get an updated branding to reflect it?

My main candidates for tv branding:
HomeView
HomePlay

In this case, Apple TV is the service, HomeView is the device and TV (no Apple prefix) is the television aggregator that brings content from other apps into one.

For the pad-like hub, does it get a suffix or does it live at the top of the Home ecosystem org chart and get called simply Home?

My main candidates for Home hub branding:
Home
HomePad

Here's what the Home lineup would look like:

If I’ve learned one thing in 43 years of buying Apple products, it’s to wait rather than be an early adopter.

I hope that's not the final design because the pastel metals look like crap. The original render looks much better.
