Unfolded iPhone Duo Lets You Preview Documents in a Two-Page Layout

The iPhone Duo's Quick Look feature appears to have a two-page layout option when the foldable is held in its open-book orientation, based on a new finding by code explorer pdfu.

A video clip shared on X shows an Apple Style Guide document previewed across both halves of the unfolded iPhone, with consecutive pages displayed side by side like a spread. When navigating the document, the Quick Look interface displays search, markup, and share controls along the right-hand side.

The layout would make Quick Look the latest feature to take advantage of the Duo's wide-format display. Apple has already detailed how iOS 27 adapts interfaces for the device, including angle-aware layouts and side-by-side multitasking.

Pre-orders for ‌iPhone Duo‌ open at 5 a.m. Pacific Time on Friday, October 16, with availability beginning Friday, October 23.

Crackgate? iPhone Duo Owners Report Screens Breaking Along the Hinge

Friday October 23, 2026 11:05 am PDT by
Some iPhone Duos are already experiencing hinge issues that cause display cracks, based on photos shared on Reddit and the MacRumors forums. Almost all of the display faults are right along the hinge, and most result in a line of bright pixels across one side of the screen. An iPhone Duo owner in Australia said his device cracked after being opened fewer than 20 times, and there was no...

That’s a lot of space wasted around the content though. What happened to the Liquid Glass doctrine of using floating controls to prioritize and maximize the content?

wow, two-page document preview. my ipad has been doing this for years, but apparently folding an iphone in half turns basic ipad functionality into a groundbreaking innovation. 😂

Is it just me, or was that opening animation a lot cleaner and smoother during the keynote? I remember seeing that and thinking, “that’s a slick animation,” but it was kind of janky in that post.

Yes, I get the general idea, and to some extent, it is an innovation. But my point is that it doesn't seem to warrant a dedicated news story—especially since it’s just a render.

In the past, I’d simply get a new iPhone, and Apple would say, "Here’s the new flat design," and that was it. Now, they try to present every single pixel of the new design as a separate news item and an innovation.
OK, I appreciate what your are saying, but two things:

[LIST=1]
* It's MacRumors — this level of glazy-nerdy-focus it literally what keeps the lights on. Or people would only show up a few times a year for an event, or when they need to differ to the Buyer's Guide,
* As a UX designer, this is massive within iOS UX development and opens creative possibilities. It's not to say it's original for foldable — Android has the HALF_OPENED device state to target, and you can specifically target Tabletop or Book Posture, but this is completely different for iOS development. That's the kind of stuff I come here for. That there is legitimate thoughtfulness being considered for UX in this state, and they are making it that easy to target, is kinda awesome. I already have two tandem projects I'm working on trying to do something cool in that state.

I know it's just a render, but those of us that haven't installed the SDK Beta yet, nor have a project to simulate on the Duo — or aren't developers at all — may find that peek behind the curtain really interesting. I did, again — not because it's groundbreaking, but because we hadn't seen it before.

I get you may be using this site from the perspective of a consumer interested in tech — awesome — but many of us developers, designers, and engineers leverage this site from a much different perspective that just so happens to have an overlap in the Venn diagram this site represents. A peak into code snippets are cool for a consumer (an interesting product may be coming) but we may see it as something coming down the pike to target in code. As I say to friends on Comic book sites it's fine if a topic covered doesn't interest you, it probably interests someone else, and it's really cool that a site like these has a little something for everyone, rather than needing to have everything need to appeal to everyone.
