Apple executive chairman Tim Cook is expected to attend a White House state dinner for Chinese President Xi Jinping, reports Bloomberg.
Cook stepped down as Apple CEO and transitioned to executive chairman on September 1, with John Ternus taking over. Part of Cook's new role includes engaging with policymakers around the world.
U.S. President Donald Trump invited Cook, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, among others. The dinner will be held next week during Xi's visit to Washington.
Cook has attended multiple state dinners with Xi. Earlier this year, Xi held a state dinner for Trump in Beijing where Cook was present, and in 2015, Cook was seated next to Xi at a state dinner then-President Barack Obama hosted.

The fact that nothing has changed in their leadership gives a lot of weight to this comment. Usually when a new CEO takes over, people retire, people are ousted (RIP Forstall) and c-suite shuffles around.
Why would you expect anything significant change in leadership in the first two weeks? Honestly. I know tech nerds on MacRumors are upset at Apple, but you know who’s not? Shareholders. You know what’s a good way to get shareholders nervous - shaking up the executive team of an extremely well run company that is making a ton of money during a CEO transition.
Ternus brought none of that. Everyone is where they've always been. In all honesty, you can't even tell things have changed one way or another. Unlike when Cook took over for Jobs. That was a firestorm.
Cook became permanent CEO in August 2011. The first change in the executive team was October 2012, 14 months later when Forstall got canned because he (reportedly) was impossible to work with and wouldn’t apologize for a botched Maps rollout he was responsible for.
