With iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2, Apple extended Apple TV app profiles to the iOS version of the app.
Apple brought Apple TV profiles to tvOS with tvOS 26.2, but the feature has been limited to the Apple TV until now.
Apple TV app users can create new profiles in the account settings section, which can also be used to swap between profiles. Profiles only require a name, profile rating, and information about whether the user is a child.
Creating an account for a child limits content to a PG rating by default, but there is a customize option for more granular control. Users can select age ratings for TV shows and movies that are appropriate for the child based on their age
Profiles are a useful feature for a parent that wants to hand over an iPhone or iPad to a child to watch TV or movie content because it restricts what's available without impacting what the parent sees when signed into their own account.

Update — 10 a.m. Pacific Time: Apple has released iOS 27.
During its iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo event last week, Apple announced that iOS 27 will be released widely on Monday, September 14.
iOS 27 should be available around 10 a.m. Pacific Time / 1 p.m. Eastern Time today via the Settings app, under General → Software Update.

Apple has added a new "iPhone Handoff" feature to iOS 27 that will allow you to switch between two iPhones while using the same phone number on each device.
This functionality was briefly mentioned during the WWDC 2026 keynote in June, on a slide that listed hundreds of new features coming in iOS 27 and corresponding software updates, but Apple never shared any further details at the time.

Profiles are basically useless. You can't even have a Photos library tied to a profile. We should be able to have different homescreens per profile too.
None of my streaming services support this on the AppleTv, i still have to select a profile when i open Disney, Hulu, Paramount, Netflix. Then on my continue watching on the apple tv it shows me thing my wife and kids have been watching.
It would work without the streaming services having to do anything if Apple implemented it properly. Each profile should have its own home screen and its own installed apps in their own container. Keep each apps data relating to your current position in that app, stored in RAM or drive perpetually. That way if you opened up an app it would start where you left off. So if you were on your AppleTV profile and opened Netflix then selected your profile inside of Netflix… next time you opened Netflix you would already be on your profile. Everyone else would be in their own container and be able to continue where they left off.
