iPhone 17 Pro Cases Fit iPhone 18 Pro - Or At Least Otterbox Thinks So

iphone 17 18 pro case otterbox%402x scaledBloomberg's Mark Gurman noted on X (Twitter) today that Otterbox is already selling iPhone 18 Pro cases at Best Buy. While the timing is early for a new iPhone that isn't expected to launch until mid-September, what's more interesting is that Otterbox's packaging indicates the iPhone 18 Pro will fit iPhone 17 Pro cases and vice versa.

Gurman passed on the packaging detail without saying whether he agrees with the implied sizing, but rumors suggest the iPhone 18 Pro lineup will largely retain the same design as the iPhone 17 Pro models. However, at least two leakers have claimed that the iPhone 18 Pro Max could be thicker and heavier than its predecessor, owing to its larger battery.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman says Apple's decision not to name its former design chief Jony Ive in its trade-secret lawsuit against OpenAI was likely a deliberate one, shaped in part by the company's relationship with Laurene Powell Jobs. Apple's roughly 40-page complaint refers only to unnamed "former Apple leaders" rather than calling out Ive, even though he leads design on OpenAI's hardware...

Apple is preparing to refresh every Mac it sells over the next two years, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. Next week he will post that they won’t. The week after he will post that they may or may not. Then after the event he will circle back and reshare that hey, look, he predicted the result.

Don’t we all have that one generous pair of jeans that can accommodate a gluttonous meal out from time to time? Maybe it’s like that.

My guess:

* 18 Pro: cases can be re-used, not gonna have crazy battery or crazy camera. $100 increase
* 18 Pro Max: crazy battery (i.e. thicker) and crazy camera. $250 increase

I like to dunk of Mark as much as the next guy but this is one of the few times he’s actually just reporting

Unless that photo is fake Otterbox is actually advertising 18 Pro compatibility on existing cases. If that does get walked back it will be on Otterbox, not Gurman.

It could be the other way around: They're already making new cases that are slightly thicker, but the old phones will still fit (with a bigger lip around the screen).
