Apple Boosting iPhone 13 Production in Anticipation of High Demand at September Debut

Apple is looking to boost initial production of this year's iPhone 13 models to 90 million units through the end of the year, an increase of up to 20% over the 75 million units of the ‌iPhone‌ 12 series produced last year, according to Bloomberg's Debby Wu and Mark Gurman.

The report also outlines a number of expectations for the ‌iPhone‌ 13 series, most of which have already been rumored:

  • Same four sizes as the current lineup
  • September announcement
  • At least one model with LTPO display to enable variable refresh rate
  • Smaller notch
  • Camera upgrades will focus on video, including improved optical zoom
  • Upgraded chip based on same 6-core design as current A14
  • No in-display Touch ID, although Apple did test the technology for the ‌iPhone‌ 13

In addressing the smaller notch on the ‌iPhone‌ 13, Bloomberg says that while Apple's goal is to ultimately remove the notch entirely, it looks like even the 2022 ‌iPhone‌ will still include one. It is, however, likely to be reduced further in size compared to the ‌iPhone‌ 13's notch.

I guess it doesn't really help to complain about lack of touch ID. But I will anyway. I want touch ID, damn it.

With how often folks on this site complain that there hasn’t been a reason worth upgrading for years I feel like this thread won’t be much different.

That said, every single smaller notch render makes it look like any ugly and generic Android phone. I’d rather see them wait until they can shrink it into the slim bezel that remains; would make the removal more impactful and there wouldn’t be an ugly half-step.
It will be the same. MR forum will be filled with complaints and how Apple is no longer "innovative."

The expected complaints: no periscope lens, no 144Hz refresh rate, still have a notch, no USB-C, etc.

And that won't change how Apple will keep breaking revenue records the next quarter, just like with the iPhone 12 series... :D

Makes sense as they might have lost X-Mas sales due to late release last year. Hopefully this year brings features that accompany that "Oh, I want to upgrade" feeling we got in the past (1st gen to iPhone 4).

Considering how well the iPhone 12 line sold during a pandemic (and late so fewer months too) I would expect the 13s to do even better.
