Just ahead of when Apple plans to release new 2018 iPhones, the company has quietly updated its AirPort Utility app to introduce support for the longer display of the iPhone X.

AirPort Utility is one of the last remaining Apple apps that have gone for months without an iPhone X update.

For those unfamiliar with the app, it is designed to allow AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme, and AirPort Time Capsule owners to manage their devices.

Apple has discontinued development on all of these products, but has pledged to continue to support them for the next several years. Today's app update follows a major firmware update for the AirPort Express that introduced support for AirPlay 2.

Between this and the AirPlay 2 update the other day, I'm hoping that Apple has a WiFi hardware surprise in store for us next week. Probably not, but it warms my heart to think about it, lol.

I switched to Eero mesh. It's as close to an Apple product as you'd ever want.
I'm going to upgrade to this once an 802.11ax version comes out. I've got gigabit at my house now so I'm going to need something faster for full-home coverage if it's going to last me another 6 years or so with future internet upgrades on DOCSIS 3.1. For now I'm only paying for 500Mbps until I have newer hardware.

As long as the current standard is 802.11ac, the Airport Time Capsule will continue to serve me well.

Have you stopped to consider that the hardware is incapable of supporting Airplay 2? Sheesh...

I'm hoping there is some hidden meaning behind why they'd spend the man hours to update an app that services a line of products they 86'd.

I’m still using the AirPort Extreme and so far everything is working fine. I don’t see a need to replace it and our internet is still very fast.
