Updated Facebook App Optimized for New iPad Coming?

by

MacRumors reader Mike Jobson sent us this screenshot from the UK App Store that appears to hint at a forthcoming update for Facebook for iPad that would presumably add support for the tablet's Retina display.

The Facebook app was last updated in December.

Maybe if they fixed the bugs while they were at it I'd get excited.

I don't care about Retina support when the app itself is just abysmal. Terrible interface and functionality. It's better to just open Safari instead.

It's ridiculous how the Facebook app, that is to 90% an app wrapping a web browser (you can compare the similarities at http://touch.facebook.com yourself), can still have so many bugs.

For example, if I browse photos on Facebook for iPad, I can only "like" or comment the first one. After that, I need to exit the photo viewer, and re-open it again. It's also unstable when viewing photos in the first place. Sometimes it just crashes. Also, no timeline, and missing tons of Facebook features on the website. Not sure you can even remove friends from the app, or subscribe to people, or arrange friend lists... It isn't even translated properly - the localized version I use is a mix of my native language and English.

In short, an utterly horrible app for having Facebook's resources. Companies with five iOS developers have done better than them.

Retina support is far from the greatest feature it's missing.

I hope they get a move on. Retina support will make viewing photos really nice on the new iPad.

They *should* be adding Timeline support to the iPad app in this update as well.

I love my iPad 2, but Facebook on iPad has been one of the major disappointments; especially considering how damn long it took for them to roll out the app; and how many subpar experiences I had prior to the app's release, using both paid and free 3rd-party facebook apps.

In a typical week, or even a typical day, i probably have to...

A. use the Facebook app to do SIMPLE things iOS Safari can't do on Facebook.
B. use iOS Safari to do SIMPLE things i can't do on the Facebook app.
C. give the f#%+ up, and use Splashtop (amazing app btw) to run Safari on my iMac to view Facebook.

i mean... what the...?!!
