Following last week's seed of the first developer build of Mac OS X 10.6.8, Apple has now pushed out a second version known as Build 10K524.

With the update checking in as a 1 GB download, developers are reportedly being asked to focus their testing on AirPort, Graphics Drivers, Mac App Store, Networking, QuickTime and VPN, the same areas highlighted in the initial developer build last week.

As we have previously noted, Apple is expected to make Mac OS X Lion a major focus of its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) scheduled for just a few weeks from now. Apple has pegged the public launch of the next-generation operating system for "summer", although a more specific timeframe is not yet known. Consequently, Mac OS X 10.6.8 may be the final update for Snow Leopard before Lion debuts.

Can anybody please elaborate on the “focus.. testing”, particularly for graphics drivers? I'm pretty sure “graphics” has been an area of focus in the developer builds for years (okay, maybe not that long), but nothing has really changed.
Graphics drivers are constantly being updated, and therefore constantly need to be tested. :) It's a good thing!

I don't get why you would install a developer preview on your main system/partition. Betas are known to have bugs. That's why they are usually not available to the public. Just use them for what they are meant: testing.

Snow Leopard is still in beta?

Can't come soon enough ... will be nice to be back to a hardware-independent build instead of all the one-offs of 10.6.7 generated for the new Thunderbolt machines.
